Laurie David's Defense

When you draw a line in the sand, it's hard to get caught on the other side. The larger media has been particularly harsh with the Davids' (Laurie & Larry) most recent environmental faux pas. This is the second time that work at their Chilmark property has crossed the line and violated the wetlands protection act.

From today's Globe: Do as Laurie David says, not as she does. The environmental activist has been fined $900 by the Chilmark Conservation Commission for violating the state Wetlands Protection Act while building a tennis court at her Martha's Vineyard manse. The commission will inspect David's property today to determine whether, as promised, she is repairing the damage. This is the second time that David, ex-wife of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" comedian Larry David, has run afoul of the commission. In 2005 she was ordered to remove a barbecue area and wooden stage and relocate a fire pit because they were too close to sensitive wetlands. In the latest incident, boards and rocks were laid over wetlands to create a road enabling heavy equipment to get to the site of the tennis court....(more)
