Another Wind Meeting!

If only there were some way to capture the raw power of the collective hot air being blown about by the debate over wind power. Regardless, the conversation drags on. State officials will be on Island tomorrow to hear harrumphing. Islanders meet tonight to plan harrumphs.

State officials will be pretending to listen to concerns over the Draft Ocean Management Plan. The plan outlines a location off of the south west coast of the Island that would be suitable for wind farm development. Since the draft release, Islanders and Island officials including the MVC have been freaking out, imposing moratoriums etc. Has anyone brought up secession yet? Maybe Connecticut will still have us? Anyway the meeting takes place tomorrow night at 6:30 at MVRHS.

Those who stand in opposition and want to coordinate their harrumphing can join the Let Vineyarders Decide meeting tonight at the Chilmark Community Center. From the LVD blog: how surprised and even shocked were you to realize the state planned to have only one commercial wind farm for the whole state and planned to place it off nomans land and cuttyhunk?

how did you then feel when you discovered that it was planned for 166 wind turbines each 50 stories high with enough lights to be visible to navigation at night (visible for over 30 miles) and able to generate enough electricity for 200,000 homes?

did it bother you that nantucket was bypassed for this city of wind turbines because state people thought they had birds that needed to be protected and the federal bird sanctuary of nomans land with the same birds didn’t need such protection?

how do you feel about the fact that our martha’s vineyard commission wouldn’t have final authority over applications to build in vineyard waters, but such decisions would be made by a politically-appointed state siting board?

Follow the jump for more questions about your personal level of disgust. Wait. This whole thing feels familiar...oh, yeah Cape Wind. Well, VT thinks that Chilmark is the best place to hold this meeting. As you can tell from the map on the front, depicting a 7m rise in sea levels, Chilmark will be just about the only part of the Island left standing.

Thanks to Solipsister for contributing to this post.

Thanks for the wonderful

Thanks for the wonderful post. It was unknown to me that you are working with wind. It is unique to me.
