The Hot Tin Roof Lives Again

No wait, this time it will be called Nectars. That's right, the same Nectars from Burlington, Vermont, the birthplace of Phish. When the hippies wake up, they are going to be so excited. The new, Island super club technically opened last night but tonight is the big bang.

Nectars has been a staple in the hippie music scene for more than 30 years. The original building, on Main St. in Burlington, was open to many different acts before a band with a penchant for phonetics began playing there regularly. Phish put Nectars on the map and now the owners will try their hand at managing the Vineyard's only nightclub. It can't be easy.

The club has changed hands several times since its heyday in the late seventies and early eighties. No one seems to be able to make a go of it. Maybe gravy fries, Nectars other claim to fame, and some deep connections in the reggae and rock community can bring some serious nightlife back to the Vineyard. Looking at their booking schedule, however, it looks like more of the same with acts like the Refugee All-Stars, Method Man et al. on the roster.

That being said you should check out tonight's show with local rock stars Kahoots in a line up that includes Loira Burra and Scarce. This will be the show of the summer for Islanders in the know. Take a picture and send it to VT!
