Hunter Becomes Hunted

Hunting season opened yesterday, and what happened? Eighteen guys went out hunting together in the state forest but only 17 returned. What happened to the other guy? He was flown to Mass General after being shot in the neck. Police are investigating.

The shooting happened just after 11am at the eastern edge of the Manny Correlius State Forest. According to police, 73-year-old Joseph Asiaf of Centerville was in a large hunting party when he was struck by a single pellet of buck shot. There are apx. nine pellets in a shell so it could have been worse, but still.

The victim was transported to the Martha's Vineyard Hospital before being medivaced to a real hospital, Mass General, where he is reportedly in stable condition. Police say that while it is likely that the shot came from someone in his own hunting party they would like to question the occupants of a grey SUV that was parked nearby at the time of the incident.
