Gov Gives Finger and Turbines

"Nothing is going to be rammed down anyone's throat," says governor Patrick moments before shoving 166 wind turbines into Island waters. Patrick argues that that the area on which the turbines will be cited is "already called a no-man zone for a reason." Oh, well, excuse us.

And just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water.  Governor Deval Patrick summed up the state's position nicely, telling the Boston Herald that "Wind mills have to go where the wind is."  No one on Martha's Vineyard is arguing with that. The only opposition to the plan seems to be from the group Let Vineyarders Decide. The loose knit band of eco warriors has a blog and mission: to let Vineyarders decide the scope of off-shore projects that can be seen from on-shore places such as Alley's General Store, Stop & Shop and Island Tire.

From today's Herald:  As part of a plan due from state Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Ian Bowles by Dec. 31, a wind farm of up to 100 turbines would be located southwest of the wildlife refuge Nomans Land, and another 66 would be placed off Cuttyhunk.
