Bridge Rising

Take a  look at our picture this morning. Do you see what that ladder is on? The bottom of the channel. VT finally gave in and stopped to check out the progress on the other side of the rail. Once the iron workers show up, things start to happen pretty fast.

The new "temporary" draw bridge being built between Tisbury and Oak Bluffs is set to receive steel.  The bearing pads, which will carry the roadway, have been poured. The actual bridge has been delivered and will soon be set on its moorings. Then the bridge can be surfaced. For those who did not already know, the state is building a temporary draw bridge so that it can build a permanent one. If your are keeping track that is (1) the bridge that we have now (2) the temporary bridge being built and (3) the new bridge to be built after the one we have now is demolished. Of course, after the new, new bridge is built then the new old bridge can be demolished. And all for the bargain basement price of $10-million. Ah, government.

Actually the state wanted to just close the road and build a new bridge but Islanders wouldn't have it. You would have to drive all the way around by the blinking light just to get to Gio's, oh yeah, and the hospital.
