Hey You Kids, Stay Off My Ancient Way

Martha's Vineyard, where the rich and beautiful come to relax, unwind, enjoy the vista and sue the locals for walking on their ancient paths. The story is much less sexy than that lead line but the Globe is going to tell it anyway. If VT takes anything away from this article it might be that development = conflict.

Fire Kills Firefighter

An early morning fire in West Tisbury killed one man. According to media reports, fire broke out around 5am at the home of 63-year-old Daniel Prowten, a 30-year veteran of the fire department. While the blaze is being considered an accident, officials are holding off on coming to any conclusions until an autopsy can be performed.

Milestone On Martha's Vineyard

Geocachers place a special significance on milestones, usually every hundredth find.  Some crank through a few hundred finds on a single, intense, "power trail"excursion, while others only pass that magic 00 number once a year.

Global Warming Killing Island Trees?

You can see it from the road, even in the middle of summer, a bald spot in the rolling green canopy of oak leaves.  The 500 acres of dead oak trees in West Tisbury may be what's left of a caterpillar invasion, or a drought or both but, maybe a harbinger of things to come in a world that is slowly getting warmer.

Going, going, gone

Just when you think there might be some kind of normalcy returning to the financial markets, just when you thought that real estate, Vineyard real estate, might finally be coming back down to a lower Earth orbit, a $5-million dollar house goes off at a foreclosure auction for $3.9.
